If you own a pair of Airpods, chances are you upgraded from a wired headphone or an earphone. If you still have your old headphones in your possession, then you may want to use both your airpods and headphones at the same time.
If you are using an iPhone, the iPhone can connect to both devices, the airpods, and the headphone, individually. But the question arises that both of these devices can be played with a single iPhone or smartphone at the same time simultaneously.
Here we will discuss the credibility of using airpods and headphones by dividing the headphones into two categories. We will first pair a traditional wired headphone with the airpods, and then we will try out a set of Bluetooth headphones and see if they work simultaneously with airpods using a single smartphone.
No! You cannot use airpods and wired headphones at the same time with your iPhone or Android smartphone. These smartphones are made to channel audio output using a single-mode, whereas airpods and wired headphones use different modes to get audio signals.
The airpods use Bluetooth technology to connect to your iPhone. First, you have to turn on the Bluetooth option in your iPhone and then select the airpods and pair them. After that, the audio output of the iPhone will come out through the airpods. On the other hand, you will need to plug in a headphone jack to a designated port when it comes to wired headphones. The old smartphones all share a common 3.5mm headphone jack. But the new iPhones use the lightning port for wired devices, and some of the new flagship Android devices use USB-C ports for the same purpose.
Almost all of the smartphones in the market are programmed to Chanel their audio output through the USB port. What it means is that if you connect airpods and wired headphones at the same time, then the audio will come out of the headphones. The audio will only start to play on the airpods when you fully disconnect the headphone jack from the headphone port.
Using airpods and Bluetooth headphones at the same time
Even though you cannot connect airpods and wired headphones at the same time, it is possible to share wireless audio headphones. Here are the steps that you need to follow to use airpods and wireless headphones at the same time.
Step- 1: First, you will need to have a Bluetooth 5 technology-enabled smartphone device. Bluetooth 5 enables smartphones to connect two Bluetooth devices at the same time. All models from iPhone 8 support Bluetooth 5. The new Android devices also support this newer version of Bluetooth.
Step- 2: You will need to upgrade your iPhone to the latest iOS. If you own an android device, it should be upgraded to the latest Android OS.
Step- 3: For the android, turn on the Bluetooth and search for the airpods and wireless headphones in the Bluetooth menu. When you find both of the devices, tap and connect to the airpods and then do the same with the headphone, it does not matter which one you connect first. After doing this, both devices will be connected to the Bluetooth menu. If you play music or any other audio on your phone, both the airpods and the headphones will start playing the same audio simultaneously.
Step- 4: For iPhones, you will need headphones that are compatible to connect two Bluetooth headphones at the same time. The headphones that come with the apple H1 and W1 chips are the only headphones compatible. Apple airpods and the latest beats earphones come with this compatibility. First, you will need to connect the airpods to your iPhone. Now go to the control center on the lock screen and tap the Airplay button. Now tap share audio and hold the beats earphones closer to the iPhone. Make sure you put the beats in pairing mode. Now the beats earphone will show up on the screen, and you can connect to it by tapping on the beats option.

Step- 5: After connecting both devices, you can play music on them simultaneously. You can also control the music volume individually for each earphone.
